WELCOME FROM MARTIN BUTLER

On behalf of Calne cricket club I would like to welcome you to our site.

Calne cricket club is a focus club and has the ECB club mark accreditation award. We also have adopted the values of the ECB “safe hands” policy. We provide competitive opportunities for adults and competitive and representative opportunities for junior members.

The club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the well-being of all its members. Ensuring that equity is incorporated in all aspects of its development. The club strives to provide equal opportunities, ensuring that each member can enjoy cricket regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality or socio-economic status.

The club has two sections; senior and junior.

The senior section is split into two sections. Players over 18yrs and players between 16 & 18. In 2005 the club had 26 members over 18, and 12 members between 16 & 18. All playing regular cricket.

The senior teams play in Wiltshire league division 1 (first X1 ) and division 6 (second X1 ). Competitive cricket is also played in the Calne & district league on Wednesday evenings.

The junior section has three age groups, under 11’s, under13’s and under 15’s. In 2005 the junior section had 61 members. Teams are mixed gender and girls are encouraged to attend. In 2005 we had 5-6 girls who where regular attendees, and one at representative level. The junior teams play in Wiltshire youth league. The club also strives to provide school links within the local area. In 2005, 255 children under 11yrs had free cricket coaching sessions provided in their schools by our qualified coaches.

Juniors are encouraged to play in the senior teams if their ability and development is of a high enough standard. The club holds the view that if they perform they are encouraged to keep playing in the side.

The club strives to provide a natural progression from youth to senior teams.

At present cricket is played in a local park which makes it difficult to develop the ground as we would like. We are at present in discussions with the local council concerning a new ground at beavers brook in Calne. Plans have been passed and funding applied for, work is due to start January 2007. Training takes place on the John Bentley school playing field, were we have permanent nets.

Our club strives to provide cricket for all sections of our community. So why not come along and get involved. I hope you enjoy looking through our website.
